From the following incident, Sri Chinmoy got the inspiration to write the song "Ami Bharater Bharat Amar." Silence-flooded is Mother Teresa's life, and the source of this silence is her sleepless and breathless prayer to God. But again, when necessity demands, she silences the roaring, thundering, criticising and whispering, stupid humanity. Once when she was in a Calcutta tram, she overheard a few Bengali ladies criticising her ruthlessly. They were saying that this foreign lady had come to their country only to convert everybody to Christianity. They were hurling their criticism-arrows at her in Bengali. They did not realise that Mother Teresa could speak their language fluently. Mother Teresa's immediate response in her self-defence silenced them. She said, gently but firmly: "Ami Bharater Bharat amar." (I belong to India; India is mine.) The Bengali ladies were compelled to bow their heads low. To our great joy, Mother Teresa is fluent in five languages: English, Bengali, Hindi, Albanian and Serbo-Croatian. The philanthropist and the linguist in her enjoy their inseparable oneness.
